Christmas

We got home from Lynchburg on Christmas morning at about 1am and were up until about 2:30am before I went to bed. When I woke up we spent the morning wrapping presents and getting ready for our Christmas traditions. The boys had a lot of fun and we all opened our stockings and presents. It is extremely nice to be home now, I haven't been home since October so its nice just to relax and spend some time with my family. The picture above is of me and DJ on Christmas morning.

DJ and Gabe with their new hats (DJ initiated the hug)

DJ told me that he committed to Liberty to run Cross Country, so he wanted me to know that.

Gid got a new mohawk hat which he liked

I am not sure all of what my plans are for this break, hopefully a lot of relaxing and seeing friends and spending time with family. I went over to the Nagles on Christmas night and hung out with Alex, Lani and Ryan so that was fun. Hillary came over the night after Christmas and right now Stephen is here, we went out to the Salvation Army and got me a really nice suit for 15 dollars so that was a success. We will see what the plans are for today and the upcoming days, hopefully they will be filled with fun.

"And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the request that we have asked of him" 1 John 5:14-15

Florida Adventure

Here is my with Daniel, Isaiah and Abram out on Lido Beach in Sarasota. I was able to visit the Efthimious for 3 days after my semester of school ended. It was really nice seeing them and being able to experience Florida as they do. The water was really cold at the beach, I just got in up to my knees to ice, but we had fun and I got some sea shells.

Here is Isaiah with his super hero pose with the ocean in the background with the sun shinning down. He didn't want to do it at first but we were able to convince him to.

Another shot of the beach

Some random big buildings by the beach

Going into down town, which was very rich like and upscale, it was quite nice.

I had a great trip down to Florida, it was on my heart to visit them for awhile now and God made a way for me to do so. I got to spend a lot of time with the whole family, particularly Anna and Daniel which was fun and we had some good conversations. I went on some great runs by lakes and a 5am morning run on the beach in the rain. Me and Isaiah saw a poisonous black racer snake so that got the adrenaline going. We also played Monopoly with credit cards, the new technology for games wow. I hope to see more of them in the near future and it was nice to rekindle our friendships :)

Relient K

So as you can see, we were really close to the stage, and close enough to even touch Matt (we didn't though). This is me and David, we went to North Carolina yesterday (Me, David, Dan, and McDougal), to see Relient K play. We arrived at 5pm, the doors opened at 7pm and there were two bands that played before Relient K. Our wait was worth it though because we got amazing spots up front. Relient K played about 18 songs and it was pretty crazy being there but a lot of fun.

Here is lead singer Matt Theissen singing away

The bass player and one of the guitar players (Justin I believe)

Matt going crazy

Here is us eating Mexican food while waiting in line for 2 hours (we were the second people there).

I am heading to Florida this week on Wednesday after my exams to visit with the Efthimiou's, I finished up my English exam today that was pretty easy, I am glad to be done with that class. Just have Speech and Bible tests tomorrow. Going out for a tempo run right now, I just got new trainers and spikes from coach so I am pretty excited about that!

God Bless,

XC Banquet

We had our Cross Country banquet the other night. The food was very very good, a nice change away from the rot. Dad and Dell came but sat at a different table so I didn't get to talk to them very much. It was a long banquet and different than the banquets I had in high school, there wasn't a normal dvd presentation like me and dad did in high school and we all were looking quite sharp with ties on. It was good though, I was able to reflect back on the season and see how much God's hand was always there and guiding. I have been moving quickly into Indoor Track season but it was nice to look back and see what God did through this team and how the people on this team really blessed me and helped me to grow in my relationship with God. I am greatly looking forward to next season but will also miss the seniors who provided so much leadership and encouragement. I will miss you Josh, Evans, Sam, Jake, Mark, and Dan.

Oh yeah we have a lot of fun too I must add.. p.s. Mom I need a hair cut

Andrew thought it would be very cleaver to take a picture of Zach through the opening of his fingers. Zach's a handsome boy.

Harry Potter & National Champion

On Monday, I watched the NCAA XC National Championships. Liberty had both Sam Chelanga and Evans Kigan running in the mens race. Sam ended up winning for the second year in a row after dropping a kick in the last 500m. It was really exciting to watch and it will be fun next week when he gets back and we all get to celebrate. Evans finished 31st which wasn't a great race for him but he did earn All-American status. Liberty runners have now won 3 out of the last 4 individual national championships and a top 2 place finish in the last four years. Way to go Sam.

Also last Friday I went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 with Dell and Dad. I must say I thought it was amazing and really enjoyed it. I really want to go see it again but I'll have to wait until it comes to the dollar theater. I can't wait for the last movie to come out next July around my birthday.

Other News in Short:

Soul business has been pretty slow, we are looking forward to Black Friday when people will be in shopping frenzies. So we will see how that goes.

Last night we watched How to Train Your Dragon after work, that also was a good movie, I recommend it.

Zach hacked my facebook account and changed my birthday to November 23rd so I had people telling me happy birthday today on facebook.

I watched the new Chuck episode that came out yesterday, it was another good one! This season is defiantly good.

And that is the life of Jarred Cornfield currently

Thanksgiving, Harry Potter, and Chuck

So this was one of the first weekends that I had where I had very little homework and I didn't have to run either so it was pretty relaxing. On Friday, Andrew, Ryan, and I watched Harry Potter 1-4 followed by 5-6 on Saturday and we are now ready for the new Harry Potter to come out in Wednesday. Also on Saturday, Zach, Spencer, Andrew, Ryan and I went down to the Tilley and played some 2 on 2 basketball which was pretty fun (we don't take it that seriously).

Sunday Night we had Thanksgiving dinner for the XC team, oh man it was so good. The food was excellent with Turkey, pasta salad, mashed potatoes, marshmallows and potatoes, amazing desserts as well. It was a fun night, we all just talked and spent time together.

Sam and Evans qualified for the NCAA Division 1 Championships after going 1-2 at the SouthEast Regional meet which was pretty exciting. Josh Edmonds placed 15th to earn all-region and Jenn Clugh finished 15th in the Womens race to also gain all-region.

I am excited to see what God has in store for Indoor Track and I am getting antsy to start running again but I am being patient. I have been trying to give my whole life to God in every way and the same goes with my running and I am just excited to see what God does with me this winter, and not what I can do myself.

In terms of the Chuck picture, I officially have Zach completely hooked on Chuck, he watched the entire 3rd season in 26 hours this weekend so he is almost caught up with the 4th season and a new episode comes out on Tuesday which I am pretty excited for, things are starting to heat up with Chuck.

I have 2 exams this week and a paper due on Friday but I am excited for break and to spend some time not doing school work. I think I am going to go to Indiana for Nationals to cheer on Sam and Evans which should be fun, don't know all the plans for that yet.

Also I am excited for December 12th, I am going to a Relient K Christmas Acoustic concert with David, Dan, and Josh McDougal so that should be really fun!

Just excited to see what God has planned!

Whats coming up in the life of Jarred Cornfield

Okay so my cross country season is officially over, I did a 1500m time trial today at practice and now I have some time off of running to recover and get ready for Indoor Track. The time trial went pretty well, I led most of it until Isaac just took off with 400m to go, I ended up running a 4:02 which is about a 4:20 conversion for the mile. It was a pretty good time trial I was pleased with it knowing that I ran that off of cross country training only. So I am pretty excited about track now and what God has in store for me in the upcoming months of running. We had a track meeting the other day at the Indoor Track and it was really cool to meet there and see the throwers working, and sprinters working on form, and jumpers doing their drills, and just knowing that the track is Liberty's and that is the school I represent. It is just really cool having our own track and knowing that it will become home.

So I have off of running the rest of this week, and I will be doing core and some strength training stuff but no running. Saturday I am participating in a golf tournament with Zach, David, and Josh (McDougal). So that should be really fun, then on Sunday we have a cross country team thanksgiving dinner at Hailey's house which should be really fun! So looking forward to a good weekend, I feel a little bit ahead of my homework which is a good feeling, I have finished one of my classes so I only have 3 classes on Tuesday/Thursdays which is so nice. Then I have my morning class for Tuesday/Thursday ending next Thursday which will be so nice.

Lately in my bible reading, I have been reading through a Proverbs each day, and then the last few days I have done also a chapter of Ephesians along with that. I have been thinking about the word wisdom a lot as it is a major theme in Proverbs. I have thought about Wisdom and been trying to apply it to my everyday life and just trying to remind myself to think before acting and speaking and trying to seek the wisest decision and act and that it would Glorify God. Also I have been really awed by a couple of verses that speak of God's wisdom and it is hard to even comprehend His wisdom. Proverbs 3:19-20 says, "The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew". So I have been really thinking about wisdom and how I can apply it to my life and how awesome God's wisdom is which I can not comprehend.

Well I am in study hall so I should probably work

UVA

Well this was after our race, we were all quite tired and we were just looking at the clouds trying to find animal shapes and such, (left to right, Zach, me, Will, Isaac)

We all got really excited when we saw a dinosaur in the sky!!

This is all the team who went yesterday, there were 6 girls and four of us guys, this was all of us after the race.

Coach, Isaac and me getting ready before the race.

This is the view from our bus, we were at a farm.

Will was very excited for the race.

This was the prank we pulled on Drew Edwards' car when we got back, it took us a few minutes to do it, but it was priceless.

The race didn't go that well, it was okay but time wise it didn't turn out like I wanted. It felt strange just because there was barely any of the team there and also because there were not that many guys in the race. We went out in the first mile at 5:13 which felt pretty slow, then we went through 2 miles at 10:40, and the 3 mile split was 16:15. It was a pretty challenging course, a lot of ups and downs, it was extremely rolling with a pretty tough long hill right after the 4k mark. I didn't feel very good the last 3k, I couldn't stay with Isaac and Zach passed me at about 6k. I kept Zach within 5 seconds but couldn't bring him back. My legs just felt very heavy and tight. So the race itself wasn't great, but my main goal was the Glorify God with my race no matter the result and that is what I was doing. I have a 1500m time trial on Tuesday which should be interesting, and then I am taking a little time off. My body is just pretty achy today, I did a 5 mile run this morning. Just relaxing the rest of the day.

This season has been a good transition season, although I didn't come out with any crazy results I still have been growing a lot and becoming more experienced. The 8k distance is pretty tough to adapt to but I am getting there. This season has made me very excited for next year, I know I have to step it up a lot in order for us to repeat as Conference Champions and that is what I want to do. I know that I will have to run a lot more miles next summer and I am ready and willing to do whatever I can to get faster.

For Indoor Track, I've talked to Coach a little bit, I know my first race will be January 21-22, I will be racing a 4x800m at Virgina Tech with Isaac, Sam and Jordan/Drew. I am very excited and hoping to have a great season.

Big South Conference Champions 2010!

2010 Men's Big South Conference Champions!

Getting ready before the race

Nearing the 5k mark (split was 16:27)

Kicking into the finish for 25th place with a time of 26:34

Rounding a turn with Caleb

The whole team, Boys and Girls Conference Champs

I had a great weekend, my parents, Dell and Neeki came down to see me run which was great. It was a great experience being apart of a Conference team and I am just thankful that God blessed us with a great race and a great day and that we could just glorify Him with our bodies. I had a lot of fun and was just grateful that I had the opportunity to race hard and glorify God with my running.

Hard Fall a Blessing

So today I went on just an easy 5 mile run, which went from my dorm to the nearby upper dam trail up to five points and back to the dorm. I was running by myself which was the first in a while and I was just enjoying the very beautiful 70 degree sunny weather here in Va. in late October. So I was running along on the trials at a pretty brisk pace, and was just thinking about what God might have planned for me in the next few years or weeks, or days, or hours, or minutes. And I was just talking with God and praying and just enjoying spending time with Him as I ran out on the beautiful trails. At about 12 minutes into minutes into my run I asked God to make my run exciting in some way or interesting, I don't know why I asked this but I just wanted something to happen. Its funny how God can respond so quickly sometimes. About a minute later, I started singing some songs in my head, and the first one I started to sing was Praise God from whom all blessings flow. And I started singing the song and just as I finished saying the word blessings I tripped over a root and fell pretty hard on the trail. I fell on my left side and jammed my right hand a little bit. I just laid on the ground for about 30 seconds or so, I had scrapped my left calf, my right knee was bleeding, and my left shoulder got some scraps along with my stomach. I got back up and started running again and I laughed to myself and thanked God. I started thinking and I thought about how all blessings come from God and even a fall in the dirt can be a blessing. It was a reminder to me and I was just really thankful for who God is and what He has and does for me.

I'm getting ready for Conference this weekend and I just want to run for the Glory of God and nothing else. If I get in last place and I Glorify God then I've accomplished my goal, and if I win and shock the world by beating Sam and I Glorify God then I've accomplished the same goal and purpose. I just hope to foremost Glorify Him and then also just encourage my teammates and give up my body as a sacrifice to God for He created it. I am really excited for an opportunity to just Glorify Him through my race and I'm happy that its not just on race day that I have the opportunity to do this but every single day with everything that I do.

Funny Pictures of the Week

#4: David is caught sleeping on the bus, I may be classified as a stalker for taking this, but its funny.

#3: Stalker picture number two, I caught Zach and Katie cuddling on the couch, I was about to go cuddle with them and make it awkward, but could not conjure up the guts.

#2: Coming in at number 2, is Ryan with the largest and fluffiest Caterpillar every found in the history of mankind, unfortunately it was 45 dollars or we would have brought it home.

#1: And at number one for this week, is the one eyed cyclops named Zach, we were having a little bit too much fun at Best Buy.

Coastal Carolina Invite/Myrtle Beach

So my weekend was pretty busy and I posted quite a few pictures on here so there is just a description of what was going on throughout the week, it was really fun.

On Saturday morning I woke up at 6:45am and went down to the beach to read my bible and do devotions. I read a few chapters of Acts and then read Psalm 113 which has a verse that says something like, "Praise God when the sun rises and when the sun sets". I got to do that with the sunrise.

A little after 7am now, here is me on the beach, it was a nice temperature out and very relaxing. Just nice to read and listen to the waves and watch the sunrise.

This is the sun at about 8am, just before I went back up to my room. I was out on the beach from 7am-8am and then I went up to my room and went on a run with Mark, Coach Scott, Sam, Evans, and Will. We did a little over 10 miles which was pretty good. We ran on some nice soft trails which was good.

This was right at 7am when the sun was just starting to come up in the sky. When I got there it hadn't appeared but it did right when I sat down. It looked really cool, and I just watched it come up for an hour.

These are some nice palm trees right by our hotel and the beach, there are tons of palm trees down here, I really want some.

This is the condo that we stayed in. Each condo had three bedrooms like this which was really nice. Zach and I were in this room which had a balcony where we could go onto and see the ocean.

This is the nice kitchen that we had as well, these rooms were huge.

This is the view from out our door, you can see the pool and also a lazy pool. Joshypants, Zach, and I went to the hotel next door and went on a lazy pool and hot tub which was pretty fun.

Here is a group of us working on a sandcastle on the beach, we were out here for a few hours just riding waves and hanging out on the beach.

Here is us just lounging around, there is Will, Sam, and Katie.

So we were up on the 11th floor which was pretty high. You can see how big this hotel was, and it was right next to the beach so we are definately spoiled.

This is our hotel from the beach, you can see that we were literally right next to the beach.

Here is the golf course that we ran at for our race on Friday. It was nice, really expensive houses everywhere with palm trees.

This was my number and uniform for the race.

This picture was on the Coastal Carolina website, as you can see I am about half in it.

So for a brief recap, we left on Friday morning and it is about a 6 hour drive. We took two different buses on the way down, the guys were in one bus and the girls in the other. I sat next to Sam on the trip down. We went straight to the golf course for the meet. In the meet I ran a 20:05 I think for 6k which was okay. I didn't have an amazing race but it wasn't a bad race, I placed 11th and our team won by a lot. Afterwards we soaked Coach Scott with ice cold water to celebrate his first victory. We went out to eat after this and Zach, David, Mark, Isaac, Spencer and I went to walmart to get food. After getting food we sat out on the curb and just watched people going in and out of walmart. We saw some people yelling at each other and almost getting into a fight, we saw a guy on a bike dragging a wagon behind him with an old lady in it, and some other people thought we were in a fraternity so it was pretty interesting. We went to the hotel after this and walked on the beach for awhile before going back to the hotel. We just chilled after that and went to bed.
Saturday morning I woke up at 6:45am and did devotions on the beach, then went for a 10 mile run. Then we went to Denny's for breakfast and then went back to the hotel and we all went to the beach. We were out on the beach for a few hours, we were in the water for awhile riding waves and mostly we just hung out. Joshypants, Zach, and I crashed the hotel next to ours and went in their hot tub and lazy pool. We ended up leaving at around 4pm. We traveled for a little bit and then stopped for dinner. On the way back our buses were not segregated by gender, so there were some girls on our bus. We played mofia for about 2 hours and it was very intense and fun. Then we finally arrived back at Liberty at around 11:45pm.
I am tired,
Goodnight
